What I know as basket of gold, others call by the common name of golden tuft or golden alyssum. Whichever name, it is gold, golden that shines through! This spring blooming perennial brings brilliance to a humble rock garden or as a backdrop for later blooming spring bulbs. The profuse clusters of dainty blooms are gleaming, exuberant yellow. The bushy gray-green foliage is low growing - after blooming it makes a subtle filler amongst larger perennials or stones. Basket of gold can also be used as a cascading edging. An easy way to add extra dazzle to the spring garden!
Technical stuff – Basket of gold/Aurinia saxatilis, hardy perennial to zone 3, height of 10-12” and spread of 12-18”, full sun, prefers well drained soil, blooms mid to late spring, drought tolerant, will self-seed in preferred conditions.
