Let It Snow, Let It Snow

Oh the enchantment of softly falling snow…and gardens have a way of capturing snow, cuddling it into their stems, seed heads and grasses, cradling it in their branches.  Gentle snow builds top hats on cone flowers, furry eyebrows on a snow face, and layer cake bird house roofs.  Pine cones become snow cones.  This luxurious, white blanket insulates our precious gardens, protecting them from the frosty bite of winter.  I do some fall clean up in the garden, but also leave many perennials to feed the birds, let more nutrition melt back into the earth, and for the benefit of winter interest!
