I love a walk about in the garden after a rain (well, I love a walk about anytime!, but particularly after a rain). Everything is lusher, richer and more fragrant. Some leaves soak up the rain and take on more vibrant colour and sheen, while other leaves capture glistening drops and hold them like jewels. Lady’s Mantle (Alchemilla) is the queen, or I guess the Lady, of hugging and holding water droplets. Her velvety leaves have it mastered, as do pine needles, grasses and spider webs. Wet stones glow and sparkle, their colours deepened. Sounds of dripping and trickling fill in the background. Just like the roots, I soak it all in.
